I locate the leak first, using acoustic and thermal equipment rather than guesswork, so the repair means opening up the smallest possible area. Then I cut out the failed section, replace it properly in copper or PEX to standard, and pressure-test the line before I pack up.
Ground movement is a genuine issue across Melbourne’s west — the reactive clay soils here swell and shrink with the seasons and put real strain on buried pipework. It is a common cause of the slab leaks and cracked drains I get called to in these suburbs.

How do I tell if I have a hidden leak?
Turn off every tap and appliance in the house, then look at the water meter. If the dial is still moving, water is going somewhere it should not be. That simple test is worth doing the moment a bill looks wrong.
Does insurance cover a burst pipe?
Many home policies cover the water damage caused by a sudden burst, but not the cost of the pipe repair itself, and generally not damage from a leak that has been slowly running for months. Check your PDS. I can provide a written report and photos for a claim.
